This shrub has been growing on my land since I moved here. It grows only about four feet high. I don't water it so it's possible it could get taller. It looks like it spreads from runners underground as it fills a good size patch (about 20X20ft). It gets its water from runoff from a large area of sandstone uphill from it.

I didn't think so at first because I've never seen flowers or berries on it but I read further and I think you may be right. Another thing they call it is skunkberry from the smell of the leaves when crushed. They're supposed to have a strong medicinal smell and the shrub in my yard has that smell when it's leaves are crushed. I'm going to try watering it and see if next year it will make flowers and berries. Thanks.
