Droopy October Glory Maple

I planted a small (2" diameter, 8' tall) October Glory Maple in mid-Oct and it's now leafing out nicely. The only issue I have with the tree is that it gets kind of droopy in the afternoon. It is getting pretty much full afternoon sun. I water it and it pops back up but it seems like I'm overwatering with as much as I'm putting on. Is that possible? Can I overwater the tree?

The soil is Texas clay but I mixed in some good compost and manure compost when I planted it. The hole it went in was at least double the pot size. Should I just keep watering it or is there something else I need to be doing?

I don't know about TX, but where I live, trees and shrubs need a lot of water during their first year. After the first year, I was advised to cut back on the watering to encourage the roots to grow downward, which they will do to seek groundwater.
