starting a new willow tree?

I have been told that you can start a new weeping willow tree from my existing tree by cutting off a small branch and putting it in water. Is this true and if so I remember using some powder stuff in the water that was supposed to make plants grow roots.... works on spider plants very well. Can I try this with my willow or is it a waste of time?

Hi Ageerdes.

Willows are one of the easiest of plants to root.

Take one year shoots from the tree in the summer and just stick them in the ground.
Willows contain their own rooting hormone.
I have never had to use a rooting compound with them as most shoots seem to root very quickly.

Is it too late to do it this year? maybe I'll start a few inside and do a trial run. Thank you so much! I want more weeping willows as they are beautiful trees but I'm too cheap to order new trees.... a HUGE help
