Juglone retention in soil

Can someone inform me as to the length of time juglone remains active in soil after the removal of a large walnut tree? The mulched area would be perfect for a planting bed, but I know that the chemical released by the tree could be an issue....HELP!

Hi Mech, I can't give you the half life off the top of my head but, there is a list of plants that can be grown in the presence of Juglone and that can be used as buffer plants to supress Juglone in the Permaculture thread under the Wildlife gardening Forum:
