RED Maple

I purchased a red maple (Acer rubrum)this spring and it seems to be doing well. My only concern is that the leaves are green and not red at all. Is this due to imaturety ??? or is it possible it is not a red maple at all?

It stands about 4 feet tall has a very young branch structure and is about as thick as a sharpie.

Red maple, usually but not always, has red leaf stems. In fall, the leaves should turn bright orange~red that easily competes with Sugar Maple. It's a good native maple with great features. One caveat -- dead leaves are toxic to horses.

You maybe thinking of the dark-red leaved cultivar of Norway Maple. Don't want those, IMO. Norway Maple is classified as invasive in many states.

yup, true red maple is green-leaved until fall. if you want a year-round red-leaved tree, A. rubrum's probably not it.
