I an not sure it this is something wild or something the people who lived here before us planted. Its in very rough shape but if its something useful I would like to help it recover and move it. Any ID and some info would be great.

That is one scraggly Juniperous Virginiana. This appearance is typical of the few of these that manage to get a start in heavy shade. They are a pioneer species, greatly preferring full sun to shade. Its not common that they will even germinate in the shade. In the sun they will be much fuller and grow upright to about 40 feet.
