Japanese Maple with white tipped branches

Hi! I have to Japanese Maples in my yard. One is beautiful and full and healthy, the other is much more sparse, and the branch tips are white and dry. Any idea of what this is and how I can fix it? We've lived in our house for a year now; last summer the tree in question was sparse but seemed otherwise healthy. I'm not sure how old the trees are.
