What type of tree is this?

This tree is about 6 foot tall after I chopped off the top. I was just wondering what it was?

I don't know what the name of that tree is but it's beautiful and I want one.

Serious... I plan to keep my eye on this thread in the hopes of someone knowing what it is.

Maybe I could take a cutting of this and poke it in some sphagnum moss and see if it roots. If it does I could probably mail it to you Julie.
Or if we figure out what it is it might be cheaper and easier to buy one lol .
I am going to try and make some starts from this anyways I really like this tree.

It might be a Golden Rain Tree. I love them from the pictures and what I've read about them, but never actually seen one up close.

It is a Golden Rain tree. I had one at a previous home. In some areas, it is considered to be weedy and invasive, although I never had a problem with it.

It looks like a fairly young tree. Or maybe I'm misinterpreting what looks like a tree support?

If it's young, perhaps the previous owner of your house can tell you what it is. Or perhaps, if you show this image to someone at a local independent nursery, s/he can identify it for you.

It's *definitely* gorgeous. Wow.

Thanks for the answers. If it is a Golden Rain Tree then mine is confused. From the link that Kisal posted the Golden Rain Tree isent supposed to flower until early July, it is only May now. I have weird plants LOL

That is a cedar stake I made for holding up a walkway light by the road where guests park Cynthia. The tree is young tho. The trunk is only about 2 inches thick and still has green bark. The link Kisal posted says that the bark should be brown, maybe when it gets older.

Thankyou all again, it is nice to know what the previous owners left behind, so I know how to care for it

Yep, its a golden Raintree. My dad has a HUGE pink one. He lives just north of Tampa, FL. There, its seriously invasive. It drops a ton of seeds and leaf litter and sprouts in days. If he doesn't pull em out within days, it can be a pain! But it is seriously beautiful. and it too flowers whenever. even soon after the frost and despite the drought they have had the last few years!

He does say that they get scrawny and kind of gangly if you don't prune them some.

Here in East TX, they grow, but the bunnies and goats really like em (and everything else small) so they are not invasive. I have friends who have them, but they had to pot grow them to about 3 feet and then still fence them until they were 5 feet to keep the critters off! Maybe because it is cooler there in OR, their growth is a little restrained.

Thanks for the offer IndorBonsai but it would probably be easier to buy one although possibly not cheaper. Special order through a nursery probably. It gets quite large and I don't have the space for it now. It sure is beautiful though.
