what to grow for screen?

I live in central PA and want to plant a screen to block view of neighbor's dog house/run. It would be in the shade and near a mature maple tree who's branches are very high and do nothing to block the view. I'd like it to reach 7-8 feet high and be a fast grower. Any ideas out there?

Off the top of my head and a quick though you might want to looks at rhododendron or mountain laurel but neither one are quick growers.

What is the moisture level in the area?

Off-hand, I'm thinking shrub-form of Juneberry (Amelanchier) You have a couple of native plant nurseries in central Pa. area -- Yellow Springs and Sugarbush, I think, that might have them. There are other understory shrub candidates I can think of -- Viburnum for one, but I don't know their mature height off the top of my head.

Isn't the Juneberry deciduous? This would mean there would be no screen for months. right?
