Shrub ID: red flowers and half inch spines

I have a shrub that is currently blooming with red flowers (5 petal). It is about 8' high. Once the sun comes up, I will post a link with pics.

You sure they're not BLUE flowers with RED thorns? :lol: Sorry couldn't resist. :roll: :wink: At the moment, I can't think of what it might be -- will wait for the photo.

Probably flowering quince, the old upright kind, Chaenomeles speciosa.
