Is is too late to prune Crape Myrtle?

I have a Crape Myrtle that is in need of shaping. I'd like to prune it back hard but it has little leaf buds on it. The buds haven't opened yet. Am I too late?

No but I wouldn't cut it back too hard now, just selectively.
