stop my apricot tree from bearing fruit

This probably sounds like a strange request, but does anyone have any suggestions on preventing an apricot tree from bearing fruit? We will be away this summer when our tree usually is fully ripe and don't look forward to coming home to pick up rotten fruit. We live in the Niagara region, Ontario, Canada

If it were I, I would arrange to have one or more of my friends come and pick the fruit, take however much they wanted for themselves, and donate the rest to a food bank, or perhaps give it to a church or other organization that serves meals to the needy.

When my Rainier cherry tree has fruit, I spread the word among my friends and neighbors that they are welcome to come over and take as much as they want, but they have to pick it themselves. I cannot be up on a ladder, so I reserve for myself the cherries that are within my reach. :)
