The previous owners of our tiny terrace house and postage stamp-sized garden saw fit to plant an oak tree about 30 years ago. We'd like to cut it down before real problems emerge, such as the roots getting into the house's foundations or it blowing over or coming down in a gale or a thunderstorm. Can someone advise if there are any problems?
1. Is it legal? As far as I'm aware, there is no preservation order on the tree, which was planted after the house was built in the 1970s.
2. If we can have it cut down, will there be any problems with subsidence when the roots release all their water?
3. Are there any other problems that we might face?
Thanks
Anselm
