When is Best Time to Plant Tree Seeds?

Hello, I've managed to collect plenty of fallen wild tree seeds/berrys like rowan, maple, ash, silver oak etc. Is it best to just plant in spring time or would it be best to plant them now to go through the winter underground, thank you, chris

A lot of tree seeds need stratification before they germinate (a cycle or series of cycles of warm and cold).

You can get some intial information of haw to stratify and which seeds need it from the RHS advisory service

Just one other question. Why is it that the wild field maples have loads of seed pods forming but the 'red' maple and variegated (yellow green leaved) maple has no seeds?
