I moved here, and there was this shrub that I believe is a rhododendron but there was some overgrown tree seedling growing in the shrub so it started growing around them. I trimed off the boxelder trees so now I have a shrub that is twice as high on one side than the other. So do I prune it off? I heard the best time to prune is a few weeks ater blooming Is this correct? I have a couple pictures. In the second picture it's kind of hard to see but the short side is on the right.

Yes, it's a rhododendron. You can safely prune it any time during the year, but since the flower buds are set in late summer, if you prune it now, you'll be sacrificing some of next year's blooms. If it isn't so lopsided that it's really getting on your nerves, I would wait and prune it immediately after it flowers next year.
