grand ma, green tomatoes and White Spots on Tomatoes

I had the pleasure of showing off my veggie garden to my grandmother. She insisted that I give her some green tomatoes to fry. I thought that they were to green. She said that she would sit them outside to let them ripen a little more. That was 5 days ago. I stopped by for a visit and noticed that a few mates had developed 1 white spot ( sunken) about the size of a walnut. I raced home to see if this spot was on any of the mates still on the bush and was happy to not find any. What went wrong? I do know that she would take the mates out in the morning and bring them in at night because she didn't want creatures lurking.

The way to ripen green tomatoes is to put them in a paper bag with or without a banana. To set them out in the sun was just an invitation for trouble. Sounds like they rotted!
