tomatillos

lots of husk tomato/tomatillo volunteers. what to do with them, and how determine peek ripeness?

Most of mine at this time are too ripe to pick. Usually, the husk is still green, and the fruit is green, when it is time to pick, but late in the season they ripen too quickly (they get sort of yellowish), and the husk is dry and brown before they are full sized, then they drop off the vine.

I popped one in my mouth today, it was pretty good like a cherry tomato almost. it was still green. these hitchhiked in in my manure, so it is just a bonus that I have edible weeds

Are tomatillos tomatoes?
I make green enchilada sauce from tomatillos. I have never grown them in the garden mostly because we do not eat many of them.
They were cheap in AZ grocery store 10 for $1 but in TN they are $1 each.
