Hereabouts tomatoes aren't set out till the last week of May. My question is what's the smallest size pot (to save greenhouse space) that's still big enough to grow a decent size plant for transplanting to the garden in late May? Incidentally I favour square pots where possible, to maximise root-room in the available area.
Apologies if this has been discussed in detail before, and I just haven't found it.

I transplant from compot to 4 inch pots. that is good only for about 3-4 weeks , then the tomato starts showing phosphorus deficiencies and I have to transplant them out to the garden or to their final 18 gallon pot. You could keep potting them up to bigger pots to buy you some time but you have to watch them and keep potting them up before their growth gets checked.
