something hollowing out green tomatoes

I have grown tomatoes for many years now and never had a problem like this--In my hanging baskets of tomatoes something is eating large holes in my tomatoes and hollowing them out. The holes are about half an inch in diameter and perfectly round. I haven't seen any bugs around them or on them and would like to know what is causing this and how to fix it.

Could be birds, searching out moisture. Has it been very dry where you are?

You could consider putting in a bird bath so they can get water without attacking your tomatoes.
