Giant Potted Plants

Sun Jul 29, 2007 8:15 pm

I have one Cherry and one Hot House Hybrid and their both doing great, I live in Hawaii if that means anything. The only thing im wondering is if I need to cut some of the branches back for better tomato growth? If I do, which ones? How much? These things are practically falling over from thier own weight. But not much fruit. Any ideas?

I realize it's a bit late for this, but cutting away too much foliage can lead to sunscald of the fruit. You can remove the side shoots that form. There's two different methods for doing this and either one is fine. You can click on the pics for a larger view.

If your tomatoes are indeterminate then they will keep growing and growing. They will need to be staked. Here's some methods.

Lack of flowering can be due to overfertilizing with nitrogen which encourages leafy growth at the expense of flowering, or temps that are too hot for too long.
