Do you paint your tomato post to protect them!

I just bought some 5 foot tomato post from agway at 1.09 each. They are very nice but rough lumber that seems to last only a few years. I have been thinking of making a paint incloseure out of a roof gutter and have about 6 inches of green paint and dip the tomato stakes to coat them. I think I would get many years that way. Has anyone done this?

I would probably paint those or put some sort of sealant on them. I have bamboo posts and they last forever.
