Johnny's Selected Seeds

https://www.johnnyseeds.com/c-52-tomatoe ... &pagenum=2

The thing to remember with catalog descriptions are that they are trying to sell seeds so if the description touts hybrid resistance and does not mention flavor it probably doesn't taste all that great. If it says it tastes good, then there are probably better ones.
The best tasting tomatoes are rarely red round and perfect to look at.

Sungold is nearly almost always at the top of the list for sweet cherry tomatoes. Sunsugar and Sun Cherry close seconds.
Brandywine is pretty much the top heirloom for real tomato flavor.

Here are some of my favorites, I have purchased from all very successfully with tomatoes that grow true to type.
Secret seed cartel, excellent service, and extremely rare types of interesting and tasty tomatoes. https://www.secret-seedcartel.com
Victory seeds has a paste tomato that grows to over 1 lb called Romeo, as well as other great and unusual ones.
https://www.victoryseeds.com
Sample seed shop: quantities of 10-15 seeds of an unbelievable selection for about $1.25 to $1.50 each, and you really only need one plant to succeed. Very high germination rates. https://www.sampleseeds.com
Knapp's fresh veggies- fabulous selection, also offers generous sizes, even in her sample packages, high germination rates, and she grows out lots of hybrids to the open pollinated stage. Very nice lady who sadly just lost her mother last week, so there may be a little delay in shipping https://knapps-fresh-vegies.netfirms.com
Sandhill Preservation- great prices, no shipping charge if you purchase more than $10 there, huge selection, and many rare and unusual varieties that originally were introduced by Dr. Carolyn Male, and Craig Lehoullier. They grow out most of their own seeds rather than being a reseller, which I respect.
https://www.sandhillpreservation.com
Marianna's seeds- very unusual varieties you just can't get anywhere else,a lot of crosses from Bill Jeffers, who is very well respected in the tomato breeding world. https://www.mariannasheirloomseeds.com
Ohio heirloom seeds- they sell a large pink Russian heart that I adore called Rosovyi Myod ( pink honey) and many others, shipping is one low price, great service and selection. https://www.ohioheirloomseeds.com
Tatianas tomato base- the absolute bible on tomatoes, and other types of veggies, her website is a true jewel because it is a tomato Wikipedia, she gets lots of Russian and other european varieties, grows them out to test them, has about 4000 tomato varieties listed, sells seed for very reasonable prices, very high integrity in a sometimes shady world of seed seller.her website is my go to for tomato descriptions and histories.
https://tatianastomatobase.com/wiki/Main_Page
That ought to be enough to get you started.
By the way, stay away from Ebay sellers, with the exception of Blueribbontomatoes, which has excellent service, and offers Kentucky heirlooms, 20 types for $10. Maria the owner cares very much, and is great at answering your emails. https://stores.ebay.com/Blue-Ribbon-Toma ... ml?_fsub=2

I'm not the greatest tomato gardener or the most experienced but I am looking at Imafan's link & wondering what do these people know about tomato taste? Shoot, they have 5 of my favorites in their top 12!

Juliuskitty has a couple people behind those websites who, I think, have just done a world of good in the tomato universe: Remy at Sample Seeds & Tatiana at the TomatoBase . I should probably include Victory Seeds just because I have used that website for so many things despite never being a customer. Johnny's often gets my largest seed order but not for tomatoes.

Maybe "big old" Jung Seeds really deserves a mention with their Totally Tomatoes. If Johnny's doesn't get my largest order, Jung's will. But, that's for all sorts of things.

I will mention 2 others, Tomato Growers Supply & Tomatofest. What a great catalog TGS has! And, they have 30 years of experience to back it up. I bet Tomatofest began over 30 years ago, as a tasting festival but evolved into a huge web presence for seeds.

In a challenging environment for tomato-growing, I have a lot of fun with researching - possibilities :). Now I will go off and visit TomatoBob.

I second the above seed sellers. My favorites are Sandhill, Tatianna's, Knapp's, Sample Seeds, Blue Ribbon and TGS. I started my tomato growing ordering from Chuck Wyatt before he passed away several years ago. His site is still around and after some problems it has gotten back on its feet and so far as I know is OK. www.heirloomseeds.com

Shumway IS Jungs, Bobberman.

I go back to when that wasn't true but then all the consolidation happened.

HPS is kind of their commercial gardener site because they have more supplies. Unfortunately, you have to access HPS separately but the other of Jungs catalogs you can order from here:

I get a lot of seeds from tomato growers supply. The seeds are very reasonable and I have not had problems with my order but occasionally since they buy bulk seeds from growers and resell them, the wrong sent. I have had that happen with Burpee sending me the wrong seeds but most companies will replace the seeds if the wrong order or seeds were sent.

I did find that with Tomato growers supply, they have a large selection of tomatoes for nearly every climate. But I did learn that if their description does not mention taste but talks about its looks and disease resistance, taste was not really great. If it mentions the tomatoes are good, then there are better. The best tasting tomatoes usually had the words "excellent" or "Old fashioned tomato flavor" or if they are tangy they will say they have an acidic bite or tangy.

Sometimes even a good tomato will not get as big or taste as good depending on how and where it is grown.

It is great to try new ones but every person will eventually find their favorites. Mine were sungold, sunsugar, sweet mojo, Spoon, and Brandywine.

I really did not like yellow pear which is an heirloom but way to sour for me.

Honorable mention sweet 100, there are sweeter cherries but none so prolific and disease resistant. It practically grows wild.

I went to Walmart today, and they had seed packs for 20 cents. Many different veggies, and Rutgers tomato. Even if they are bad, you didn't lose much.

I try to buy unusual types even if they cost $5.00 for 10 seeds. The reason is all the time I spend working on the garden! You can get a lot of the cheaper seeds at the dollar store also. I do buy some of the cheap flowers seeds and a few packs of cheap tomato seeds like ace or Rutgers! Its ashame that when you eat a pepper or tomato and you pay top dollar the seeds that are thrown away usually are worth the most!

I second all of Dusty's and Juliuskitty choices, heck I am in cahoots with most of them so I doubly second them. If you order from them you may be getting seed I grew out.

All good people with honest good seed.

Other than that I don't buy seeds anymore, they just show up in my mailbox, maybe too much. I have a problem. Seed savers/traders anonymous here I come.

South Africans you can buy at https://www.seedsforafrica.co.za. Their selection is not quite at the level that most of these sites but it is local. I think they get them from some of these places because they have the same varieties.

Also, these 2 will ship to us; https://www.tomatogrowers.com and https://www.rareseeds.com.

Baker seed company sells primarily heirloom seeds of all kind.
I have also used Johnnys seed, and Seed Savers Exchange.
