How long does it take for green tomatoes to ripen in bags?

Hello All!

I just recently picked my tomatoes, for fear of losing them to a second frost. While they’re all beautifully green, I decided to ripen them in paper lunch bags and then core/freeze them later. My question is, how long does it take for tomatoes to ripen in this fashion? I'm away for the long weekend and would hate to come home to spoiled tomatoes. I'm almost considering taking them with me if they ripen too quickly, lol. I bagged them on Monday if that helps at all.

Thanks!

I think you are safe going for the long weekend. Leave them out of the bags for the weekend if you want to be more secure about it. That way they won't ripen as fast. I never put them in bags but totally green ones usually take much longer than a week to ripen on my countertop. Now if they had a slight blush before picking, that is a different story.
My definition of insanity; trying to grow heirloom tomatoes in South Florida!

Ethyline gas (from a ripe apple) will speed you tomato ripening. Put him in the bag.
