Basically no rain for 10 weeks and for the next 10 days.

No rain for the next 10 days and not much for heat either. Looks like mid to upper 70's and then lower. I think it is time for plastic as much as I hate the stuff.

Yes, Some inexpensive 6 mil plastic over my low tunnel frames. Not for rain protection but to raise the temperature.

Looks like I need to do a little welding first on this frame.

Wow!! no rain in Washington state!!? I thought the PNW and northernmost new england were the areas of the country that were exempted from this drought. I'm in similar situation, except we got a week of rains from the tail end of hurricane Isaac. But nothing but a few sprinkles since then and no rain in the 10 day forecast. I waited as long as I could to plant fall seeds, but it looks like I will be doing a lot of watering if I want them to sprout. Our temps in the 10 day forecast are mostly in the high 70's, with a few days when the day (and especially night!) temps dip.

I'm with RBG we have had the same basic weahter pattern. Issac brought a bunch but is gone now. Had a quick hit the other night. BUt it's getting colder out, 50 right now.

I was just on my way out to cull a few more tomatoes that aren't doin anything. Does the low tunnel hellp out that much DDF? Mine are too tall to do that too. I will be leaving a few just for kicks though.

Good luck DDF those plants look loaded I'd hate to see those go to waste.

You posted a detailed description of how you make those somewhere, right Eric? I think you said they're 6' tall inthe middle. I want one -- just a smallish one would be very useful around here. :D

I wish I had the skills to make them. :(

We had a big system come through and dump a lot of rain yesterday but no rain for 10 days previously. I harvested some nice sized fruits that had set after the heat broke in August. Black Krim and Haley's Purple Comet cracked even though I picked them yesterday morning after an overnight 1/2" or so rain, before the additional 1.5" rain fell. Almost ripe Prudens Purple fruits had no cracks, but had some stink bug damage that was starting to spoil one so I had to cut it up and eat it before it was fully ripe. :?

Good luck with your gardens!

You got me thinking now Eric. Just been running through my head a way to rig up a early spring hoop tunnel/row cover. I have the material to make it happen it won't be pretty but there is always room for modification.

The Town of Friday Harbor record shows 1.04 rain fall for July.

Doesn't take into account of micro climates and most have been early in the month. June was wet.
Most of our rain is in the winter.

Going down to 49 tonight, 42 by Sun night here. Don't be jealous! I will be dying of jealousy while you are eating your vine ripened tomatoes in December!

You didn't grow up there, did you? I grew up in SoCal (mostly Anaheim) and even though that was a long time ago, I still miss it and would trade you in a heartbeat!
