Loam and sandy loam soils are best for tomato. But they can grow in most anything except heavy clay. They also like neutral ph around 6.5

A loamy soil is one that combines all three types of soil particles (sand, silt, clay) in relatively equal amounts. Loamy soil is ideal for most garden plants because it holds plenty of moisture but also drains well so that sufficient air can reach the roots.

This the dream of every gardener to have a rich loamy soil to work with.

What is the mix it is in?

I normally mix up a huge batch of stuff I gather over the winter and summer. Broken bags are half off and I need a lot.

I will mix some quality potting soil with compost, composted manure, mushroom compost, humus etc. But that can be complicated at first.

Depending on what you have used it's either not draining well, draining too well or there is not enough food for the plant.
