What should I do to prepare?

:D Hi,I am a young planter.I have two tomato plants.I have the mini red cherry ones and then I have the normal red ones. They are currently still growing but the last time my mom had boughten a tomato plant by the time it turned red the bugs got to it and ate it.We now have new ones and I was wondering what I should do to prevent it from happening again. We are also new to tomato's,we don't usually grow tomato's like we do strawberries  so I was wondering if there is anything good that would prevent bugs from getting to it.

You can't really prepare, unless you know what you are preparing for.

You need to know what your pest is, then you can deal with that. You said

"By the time it turned red the bugs got to it and ate it" bugs ate the plant or bugs ate the fruit (the actual tomato)? Those would be different things with different ways to deal with them.

But really the best thing to do is just keep a close eye out. If you notice any bugs OR any damage, come back and tell us what you are noticing, what kind of damage, etc and we can help you figure out what to do.
