Bought pine shavings for mulch!

Has anyone used pine shavings for mulch that you can get at a farm supply? The bags come in 5.5 cubic feet for $5.50 where I get them! This is the first year I have tried this type of a clean mix in mysoil. The wood chips I have used in the past I am a little affraid of because I do not know what type of tree they come from! I would assume that if you add some nitrogen to you soil when you use the pine as a compost it will work well. The horse manure I get has sawdust mixed and once again I am not sure what type of wood is used! Isn't pine slightly acid? I would also think that the light color of the pine shavings will reflect light onto the under parts of the plants and keep the soil cooler and moist in the summer! The problem I see is the wind blowing it around! Any suggestions?

Sounds like perfect mulch for blueberries. :D

I think I would soak them in compost tea, AACT if I managed to get "my act together" :>, then perhaps mix the moistened shavings with some home made compost or bagged spent mushroom compost before applying.
