Tomatoes not getting ripe

I have a large amout of tomatoes on the vine, but they are very slow to ripen this year. What might be the cause?

Oh there can be a lot of reasons, could just be the variety of tomatoe that you have this year. I did some zebra tomatoes years ago that sat on the vine from July until November before they finally ripened.

Just be patient and eventually they should ripen. Might want to spray them with a calcium spray to prevent them from decaying on the vine.

I recently read if you put apples under the tomato plants the ethylene gas they emit helps ripen the tomatoes.

Refer to the sticky at the top of the page. Ethylene gas has various negative effects on human health. Try placing tomatoes in a brown paper bag with an apple. The apple will release small amounts of ethylene that will aid in the ripening of the tomatoe.
