Amazing how little water plastic trays compared to peat

I started some new seeds on Sat in some plastic trays and individual cells. I didn't add that much water, yet they still don't look like they need water 3 days later. The peat pots I used to use needed water a lot more.

Yep, Peat Pots "wick away" a lot of moisture.
There are times when Peat Pots can be useful, but you definitely have to be more diligent about keeping them watered.
I use plastic trays or styrofoam cups most of the time.

Yes, I seemed to have had some good fortune with peat last winter, but this fall Iv'e had a tough time. I guess maybe if you are able to watch the pots and water up to twice a day they can do well. Last winter I was watering in the AM with peat pots, only to find at 4PM they were dry again. Maybe the frequent watering and drying process can work in some cases.
