Our first garden and first tomatos

Well we planted our garden march 5th and according to the seed package our Big Boy hybrid tomatoes should be ready to harvest today , but they are still green so not ready quite yet.
We had to fight off some tomato hornworms, they ate a bunch of leaves but we thanks to my wife's good eyes we got them all off. and got some
help with the wasps later on. The tomato's are 5 feet tall and growing like crazy. they are loaded with tomato's , should be turning red soon.

Looks like I need to make a trip to Central Florida. Prospects look good for a BLT at runfox's house by Memorial Day

Here in zone eight the tomatoes are trickling in, but are staying ahead of us. Our 'Juliets' and 'Sweet Clusters' ripen at least three weeks before the slicing tomatoes.

Those plants look great. If they are 5' tall, runfox must be about 8'2"

Homegrown tomato's are the best. BLTs indeed!

Handi_alex when did you plant yours that you have ripe tomatoes already? I planted march 5th and mine are till green, I'm quite curious how you did it?

I started my seeds in the greenhouse in mid December. As soon as day temperatures got into the 60's in February, the plants were moved outside during the day. Pots were gradually stepped up to three gallon size, where they grew until being potted in 10-15 gallon pots in the garden in the second week of April. All of my earliest tomatoes are container grown and consist of three 'Sweet Cluster' and two 'Juliets'. My slicing tomatoes were started much later and look much like your plants. Most of those appear to me to be three or four weeks from giving us ripe fruit.

I typical gardener here in Camden who puts out store bought transplants in late May will generally get ripe tomatoes in late June or early July.
