Has frost killed my tomato plants?

A frost hit and my plants were uncovered, now the leaves are wilting.

Are they permanently killed or might they recover?

What should I do with the tomatos still on the plants?

Does it take one frost or multiple frosts to kill a tomato plant?

Thanks for all your help through this gardening season!

Pick all the tomatoes and if they aren't frost bitten (usually you pick all the green tomatoes BEFORE the first frost) you can set them on a windowsill and ones that are far enough along will ripen up.

Whether the tomato plants are permanently dead yet or not depends on lots of circumstances, but if they aren't yet they will be soon. I'm in Ohio too and I pulled my plants and composted them last weekend. No point in leaving them in the ground at this point. Fruits on the vine just rot when frost bitten. No tomatoes are ripening at this point with cold weather and short daylight hours. The tomato plants will die once there is a hard frost.

Outdoor tomato gardening is OVER for the season, here in Ohio.
