Lower leaves are dying

Is it normal for the lower leaves of my tomato plants to die, but the top is still producing? We have had a dry couple of weeks and I didn't know if it was that or some kind of wilt?

Same here, and on many of my plants. But nothing stopped producing yet. I started clipping off some of the old dry/dead leafs of the bottom about a week ago, and in my case, it does not appear to affect the pant negatively at all.

Maybe we should try to include a picture for others to see and help us identify our problem. It will be a few days before I can do that.

I usually remove about a foot worth of lower branches because they are susceptible to disease and fungus. Cut them off, you'll be just fine.

My plants were extremely pot-bound when I bought them (I waited until they went on sale). So when I planted most of the lower leaves died off right away, however as the plants stretched out and enjoyed some TLC they've bloomed and are now doing quite well - so I wouldn't worry about a little leaf loss :)
