tomatoes in screen room
My topsy turvy tomatoes are growing well on my screen porch--but will I need to pollinate them when blossoms form? If so, how? The bees and other insects can't get to them. I have 2 Better Boy plants in each planter, and the planters are about 5 feet apart. Plants are currently 2-2 1/2 feet tall/long with no blossoms to date.
Welcome to the forum, Sarah!
To hand pollinate tomatoes, use a q-tip or a small artist's-type paint brush. Gently swirl it around inside each blossom. Each flower of a tomato plant has both male and female characteristics, so they are self-fertile. All you need to do is get a few grains of pollen from the stamen onto the pistil.
