Tomatos adding soil

Ok I have 3 tomato plants 2 of them are patio tomato plants so they stay quite short and 1 is just a generic tomato plant. I have all three of them in 5 gallon containers but when I planted them I did not have enough soil to go around so the containers are only 2/3 full. I now have a lot of soil and was thinking about topping off the containers. The plants are doing great right now but I want them to do well long term which is what drove this idea. Is there anything I should do as far as pruning their lower branches or should I just pour in the soil and let the plant figure it out?

I would pick the lower leaves off and then just add the soil.. the stem were you planted it should grow more roots after a few weeks and make the plant alot healthier.

So should I cut them off right at the main stem or further out?

at the main stem, just leaving a tiny stub so you don't wound the main stem.

I'd let the pruning heal for a a couple days before adding soil. But that's just me.
It's kind of like pouring dirt on an open wound in my opinion. Let the cut heal up.

Thanks everyone. I took everyone's advice and I'll post photos as time goes on.
