Tough Tomato Skin

Finally I am getting to eat my Sweet 100 tomatoes, I really like thier taste but am not to happy with how tough the skin is on them. Its almost like apple skin.Did I do something wrong growing them,do they need to stay on the plant longer? Any opinions or advice would be appreciated.

I haven't grown Sweet 100, but have grown Peacevine, which was dehybridized from it. Chew em up and spit out the skins. The thick skin helps prevent splitting, so they are probably supposed to be that way.

I am getting tough/thick skins on my tomatoes too.
Every year I grow them, And not the same tomatoes every year.
Right now I'm growing early girls.
Would love to know why this happens.

Some varieties are bred for crack resistance and they tend to have tougher skins. Other than varietal differences, I think it is related to the weather. Hot dry weather makes the tomato tend to thicken/ toughen the skin to conserve moisture. Inconsistent watering exacerbates that.

I'm growing Early Girls too and mine aren't like that. Lots of watering and lots of mulch to keep the water in the soil.
