Let's Talk about... Lifter Tomatoes!

Does anyone grow mortgage lifter tomatoes and how are they for canning or just for sandwiches?

I grew Brandywine, German Johnson, Arkansas Traveler, Rutgers, and Pink Oxheart tomatoes this year. All of them were good. The German Johnsons kinda turned to mush and water when canned. The Brandywine had a thick peel. I'd say the Arkansas Traveler was my favorite of the lot, but they were slower to ripen than the rest- but they tasted great, tremendously good. :D

Paste tomatoes like Amish Paste are the best tomatoes to Can. They have thicker skins and other attributes that make them ideal candidates for canning.

Santa Clara Canner is a tomato that was specifically used for commercial canning at the turn of the century. I believe you can get the seeds from Baker Creek heirloom seeds and I have also seen them at a few other places.
