Gravel shed and Greenhouse base

Hello Everyone.

I am a complete garden novice having lived in a flat all my adult life I finally have a house and a garden!

Being a typical bloke first think I did was buy a shed and my lovely misses a greenhouse. We have an area of the garden which we would like to lay gravel on and put the shed and greenhouse on the gravel. Now I know both need a real base and both will have one, but my question is about the depth and type of gravel needed.

I shouldn't think we will walk on the gravel much, it is more for decoration and water drainage, so I was wanting to go for a 10-20mm gravel, will that be ok for light walking traffic, also how deep do I need to go? At the moment there is no turf on the area to gravel over, just mud! How far down do I go?

Thanks is in advance

Ned
