So I live in an urban environment, so growing things on the borders of my property for privacy is a big concern. I have a 6' fence on the south side of my back yard that I want to grow something vine-y up and over to provide another 2' or so of privacy above the fence.
The issue is that, because the fence is on the south side, my side at ground level is full-shade. But once it reaches the top of the fence, it will be in full-sun! So I need something that a) grows well in my area (zone 8 ), bonus points for being native to the pacific northwest, b) is an attractive, preferably flowering, vine of some sort that will grow up a lattice-type structure and then spread laterally, c) will tolerate the shade until reaching the sun, and/or grow fast enough from a large enough starter that it can reach the sun it prefers in the first season, d) preferably won't spread via root system.
