Update on landscaping I am doing. w/ more photos

I wanted a view here so I trimmed out a ton of small trees and brush. You can see a big brush pile. I planted grass where the dirt is the other day. I am thinking of adding ferns between the grass and the view of the hills.

My other landscaping project that I am doing. I did this today. The area behind the rhododendrons was a thicket of brush and trees. I wanted to open this area up to give a feeling of depth and tie the woods into the yard better.

This is part of the brush pile you see behind the other photos of Project 2.
What I did not cut out for fire wood I will put the Brush Hog on the tractor and grind it up, I have not burned in years, it all goes back into the soil.

More of the pile, quite a bit of brush came out of this area; it was like a wall.

This is the other photo of the brush pile in project #2, I do not know why the paste function is acting up, it can't be me.

Wow! your version of landscaping is much more large scale than mine, but gorgeous. I love what you are doing, especially to add the ferns in.

It is a bit raw now but it will look nice when done. I have a big supply of large ferns so I will dig some up and move them, this is a cheap way out.
After a day of running a chainsaw I was feeling old and stiff but it will be worth it. For some reason I love landscaping and gardening, maybe I am an addict! Oh I see it now Gardeners Anonymous.

I ran the Brush mower over the brush piles today, the pile was so big that it took me close to one hour to do. This is the same spot as the above photo.

Tom, what things do you consider brush not worth keeping in OR? I have been there a few times and everything looked so good everywhere that I can remember I wouldn't know what was considered a weed or just brush. We have a lot of introduced weeds and they are easy for me to spot here but I was just curious about your part of the country.

The areas had small trees that just blocked the view and made it so one could not walk through the area. Mostly they were alder, there are large trees there and this is what I did not cut. I dug out a number of stumps with the FEl.

The grass is starting to come in now. I am thinking of getting some small boulders from a local quarry about 1' to 2' big and making boarders; I can get them for $30 a ton if I pick them up. I feel like getting a truck to deliver a bunch of it so I can use them all over the place making small walls. What do you think? It would be a lot less than buying the cement ones at a store and I think look better.

I am getting 12 tons of rocks delivered from the quarry that are 1 to 2 foot for building walls and boarders this week and at $25 per ton delivered. That is a lot of rock but oh the fun I will have making my yard nice.

I called a local supply place and they wanted $85 a ton and you pick it up, ya right!

It's looking nice. I am very envious of your locale. We are having the worst weather I have ever seen in my lifetime. The perinnials have already begun to die completely, and trees and shrubs are also on their way out. The next few years we are going to be removing A LOT of old and young trees around here. Over 100 again today and no real relief in sight. Grass literally looks like straw and I have not had to cut mine for 5 1/2 weeks now. What I wouldn't give for a trip up to Mt. Hood right now. :(

Last year was a hot year also and it was cool and wet here. To bad about all the trees, what is worse is they help pull carbon. We still have a lot of snow on Mt. Hood and it looks nice from here.
This photo was taken where we ski on Mt. Hood; it will help cool you down.

It was 102 in Lexington today. The picture helped a bit. Thanks. I hope you guys have room for one more out there when I retire (or before). I will even pay the "California Intruder Tax" if need-be. lol

I got 12 tons of rocks and some were big but my tractor could pick them up fine. I was worried for a bit there. I put them around the yards close to the house, I still have a pile to play with.
