Bug spray help

I just put down 70 landscape timbers around my flower beds this weekend and I noticed as I was digging and disturbing the mulch from last year that there was alot of bugs. Ants, knats, spiders and such. Is there a spray or something that I can put on them anually that will get rid of the bugs? And would it be safe to put this on my garden plants.

why do you care about the ants, gnats, spiders and such? why kill them? none of that sounds like stuff that would be bothering your plants. You didn't even know they were there until you went looking for them; how are they hurting you? The spiders may well be beneficial, eating bugs you don't want.

Well I just don't like spiders but I guess I never thought about them killing other bugs. The ants end up eating things, the knats are so bad during the summer you can't sit outside in the shade if you are close to a place where the mulch is. I guess the same reason I put a bug zapper on my back porch.
