Not much of a landscaper but giving it a slow whirl

Well Lawn maintnance and apperance has allways been low on my list other than mowing my weeds.

So I figured I would jumb in slowly.

Start with an over grown tulip bed that has been growing for years.

Spent several hours weeding it and pulling trash and God knows what else out of it. Put a boarder up around it and mulched it (first time I;ve mulched anything in years.

Went to lowes and picked up 48 dwarf marigolds and 24 begonias they where on sale the 72 plants cost me right at 10 bucks.

Then we had to decide where to plant well I took the worst area near our mobile home. Had my Son in law come over and till up a 12x12 area (This area was super compacted from 7 years of parking my cars and trucks there) we managed to break it up to about 6 inches deep.

Put a nice flower bed in and spent all day with 4 grand babies diging holes and plantin the 72 plants. Mulched it all ran low voltage outdoor rope lights around the edge (It realy looks nice at night.

Today I am going to lay grass seeds in the part that wasen't used for flowers and see if we can get it to take. I went with a partial shade to full sun, semi drought resistant fescue mix, Still have lots to do and will be looking for some advice. once I get a little more of the basics out of the way. It is so hard to make the exterior of a single wide mobile home look inviting.

I will post some pictures of the area I plan on working in initally so that I can get some input.

Thanks
Jon

Hmm tilled under my parking space (Now where do I park the truck LOL)

Everyone has to learn at some point and you'll enjoy the plants through the growing season and wonder why you didn't do it sooner. 6 inch depth is good and just make certain you water twice a week if there is a drought.

Like I said Single wide is hard to make look nice but I will post some pics later to get some Ideas I am open to just about anything.

Although Reclaimed items work best for me (On a Budget)

On a 2 time a day watering at the moment till the grass sprouts good and the flower settle in real good.

Thank you for the encouragement

Jon

As I have mentioned earlier I am not much of a LandScapper but am trying to give it a whirl. here are some pictures of the initial area I want to work with. Including the Garden area It is right at 3/4 an acre we have another 1 1/4 acre but it is going to be used for a small grove of fruit and nut trees.

This picture is of the Part of our Mobile home that faces the road it is also the tulip / iris bed that I just cleaned out if you notice the boarder is not matched this is due to being free reclaimed Material. The gravel area in front of the flower bed is our driveway.

This picture is of the flower bed and new grass starting in my old parking spot. The boarder around this flower bed will be replaced with some nicer boarder tommorow (Yes reclaimed free boarder).

This one is of the side of our trailer it shows the stairs to our porch and the round patio (You got it reclaied bricks but we had to buy and mix the concrete. In the back ground you can see our current chicken pen that is in the works.

This one shows more of the area we want to fix up and another shot of the patio, Please excuse the mess against the fence (Have to clean it up after every wind storm)

Another picture of the area we want to fix up the blue tarp is covering our well and pump (The well house is schedualed to be replacced this summer) and you can tell the area we are going to use for the Veggie Garden

and a picture of the front where the drive enters the property. You can also notice the wind dammage to my neighbors shop (the storm almost killed our portable green house.

These photos are basicly about a 360 degree view of the area we want to landscape starting at the first picture and moving counter clockwise as the pictures progress.

Any suggestions (Grass is in the plan for a fall planting) or ideas will be greatly appreciated I am so tired of Drab. Tree budget would be about 30 a month and anything else would be on a planned basis. Also note we love reclaimed material for free. As far as plants go I prefer ones that come back every year as a general rule but I know that is not always possible.

like I said any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Oh a small pond is in the plans just not sure when yet. By small we mean big enough for large gold fish and our 2 ducks to enjoy together.

We are also considering fencing in a part of it with a 2 board Horse style wood fence.

** note: on occasion a skidsteer and a mini excavater or at my sons disposale ( useualy just have to wait a week or 2 till they are not on a job site)
Thanks
Jon
