flower bed edge/barrier suggestions?

Can anyone suggest what I can use to put around the edge of my 24'x8' veggie/flower bed so the grass won't keep creeping into it? I'm willing to do the work now to keep from manually edging every year. Thanks!

Hi hgunder
You could put a brick or small stone slab edging set in concrete round your beds. Be sure to lay them slightly lower than the turf so that your mower can run over the edging, cutting all of the grass, without damaging the blade. Also,(if you can get it where you are), there are strong plastic strips - usually green coloured - that you insert vertically between the turf and the soil. This can also be run over by a mower without damaging the blade, and keeping the grass where it belongs.

Some good ideas from Delia. Here's more. I like the dropped lawn edge at this first site. It requires attention once or twice a year. The last site has music, so don't be startled. :)

Thanks for the suggestions. I guess I'll price out the stone (prettiest option) and plastic stuff (economical option) and compare to how much labor the drop edge would be for me each year. That will probably win out unless I win the lottery :D since the bed is so large. Maybe Santa will bring me a new stone edging some day...
