Front foundation ideas & suggestions

Hello everyone, I am a first time homeowner looking for suggestions on the front foundation beds..The house is a red brick cape cod style house with 12 foot beds on each side of the front door. I want to start from scratch. The look I'm going for is to berm the soil and add mulch along with a nice curved edge.Attached are some pictures of how it is currently. Thank you for your input. My first two thoughts are that the beds are shallow and need a good deal of depth added, and that the corners of the house need softening to make it look larger...

Maybe the Dwarf Alberta spruces on either side of the door move out to the corners, where their eventual size and shape will make sense. Replace them with another shorter evergreen like an azalea or a PJM rhody...

Is the front door facing east?

Thank you for the tips, I have looked at the pj rhody and I think I may try that it has some bright flowers ..I also looked at a burning bush for the corner......The front of the house faces the south.

The burning bush is on our state invasives list, so you might want another choice... (so are the barberries you already have...) Just sayin'...
