question on palm trees please

Wed Feb 22, 2006 1:03 am

what is the key to growing the perfect palm tree, just planted a queen palm, a canary date palm...not sure if they will survive, I planted one last year but it died. I live in zone 9 during the summer it reaches 120' degrees, in the winter low 20-30's . What other types do you recommend? thanks a million :D

Depends on the palm. Here's a list that should work for you...

Most palms I know of do not like freezing temperatures. I wish I could tell you which ones can, as I know there are some on the Las Vegas strip and they do get cold (they also get replaced if they start to die).

The heat really isn't an issue - if it gets dry for 2 weeks I would start watering it as palms don't have a great root system.
