showing off my tomato
I picked this gorgeous BrandyWine tomato today. Organic. Had no bug problems at all. My plants are strong and thriving.

I don't have a scale. I might have a cheap scale somewhere, but it's not super accurate. I guess I could take my tomato to the store and see if they will let me borrow their scale. They might think it's weird unless I explain to them that the gardeners on the gardening blog want to know. I'm sure my tomato would not win Biggest Tomato. Sweetest or tastiest perhaps. Or Cutest. How about Best Tasting Vine Ripened Organic.
I think a tomato contest thread would be fun. People love to brag about their home grown tomatoes. I think size by variety would be nice. For example, my tomato might get biggest Brandywine but not biggest if competing with other varieties. I like funny shaped tomatoes. I had one once and have a picture of it somewhere.

This big tomato is a big deal because I have never grown a big tomato like that before. I even took it to work and showed it off, just like first grade show-and-tell. It was hard to cut into it but I finally did. Very tasty.
My sweet bird died this morning. I had him for about 12 years. It's hard for me to believe he is gone.
