walnut tree leafs as mulch

is it ok to use walnut tree leaves as mulch......... my plants are already in the ground and growing well.

Leaves of walnut trees contain a chemical that is toxic to some plants.
The chemical is juglone. Juglone is most concentrated in black walnut trees, but other walnut tree varieties also have the juglone toxin in the leaves, etc.
Leaves from walnut trees should be composted for at least one year before using on plants.

Since you don't list your area it is a little more difficult. The leaves look like a willow, perhaps Black Willow or maybe even a Willow Oak. Tell us where you live and the chore becomes a little easier. Both willow and oak are fine for composting but I am not sure about mulch. Either way it would be better to shred the leaves before adding to compost or spreading around plants as a mulch.
