Corrugated roofing iron as a barrier against couch grass?

I am trying to help a friend of mine start a veggie patch but all of her backyard and her neighbours yards are covered in couch grass, first all of the contaminated dirt will need to be removed, then I was thinking of burying corrugated roofing iron all the way around the new veggie patch as a physical barrier to keep the couch grass out once we have got rid of it, does this sound like it would work? Or is their an easier way of doing it?

It depends on how deep the roots grow. I would dig as much as I could out and then keep the area covered with cardboard for 1 summer. If your friend wants to plant this year then I'd mulch between the plants and the rest depends on how diligent your friend is about weeding. A metal edging buried deeper than the roots grow should keep it from creeping in.
