Just thought people might be interested ... Russia recently joined the long list of countries banning at least some GMO products:

Russia Suspends Use of Genetically Modified Corn -Wall Street Journal

Russia's consumer-rights watchdog said Tuesday it has suspended the import and use of a genetically engineered corn made by Monsanto Co. following a study's findings that suggested the crop might cause cancer.

The consumer-rights watchdog, Rospotrebnadzor, said the country's Institute of Nutrition has been asked to assess the validity of the study.

The study, conducted by France's University of Caen and published last week, found that rats fed over a two-year period with the U.S. crop-biotechnology company's genetically modified NK603 corn, marketed under the Roundup Ready brand name, developed more tumors and other severe diseases than a test group fed with regular corn.

11/07/12: Thanks to all who voted! Residents of San Juan County voted on Tuesday to ban the growth of genetically modified organisms. Initiative Measure No. 2012-4 passed with 5,183 votes in favor and 3,329 votes against. The initiative made it unlawful to "propagate, cultivate, raise or grow plants, animals and other organisms which have been genetically modified" in San Juan County. This measure also includes enforcement provisions making a violation a public nuisance subject to civil enforcement and making any person who knowingly violates the law responsible for administrative and abatement costs. A second violation is a misdemeanor and third and subsequent violations are a gross misdemeanor.

Kinda sad, USA the leading country- so to speak- allows a high tolerance of killing their own people.
USA even has a higher tolerance of radiation fallout from imported crops/seafood products. I found this out after visiting Japan last week.

Oh yeah... we are in to laissez faire, anything goes, capitalism these days, rugged individualists don't believe in protecting the population. In Japan currently the permissible level of radioactivity in food is 100 becquerels per kg. In the US it is 1200. We are now importing from Japan food that they consider unfit to eat.
