I heard that vinegar can keep insects away from your plants. I'm reluctant to use it because I'm concerned that it could kill my plants. I don't want to use pesticides either. Any suggestions?

A little mild soap, cayenne pepper and garlic juice, a teaspoon of each to gallon of warm water, will deter a lot of insects. A lot of Herbs also repell the unwanted insects. Putting aluminum or foil collars loosely around the stalk of your plants at ground level will deter crawling insects.
