Does anyone know if adding Nematodes really work?

There are many different types of nematodes. Some are beneficial to the gardener, some not so much https://soils.usda.gov/sqi/concepts/soil_biology/nematodes.html

Don't really need to add them, they're already there, you just can't see them.

Too general a question... adding what kind of nematodes to what really works for what purpose?

Save your money. Nematodes are already there and to increase the numbers you need to build up the soil, they will come. If you don't build up the soil and simply add them chances are they'll just die. I'd be like me buying a ton of worms and put them in my future garden spots (still in the process of building the soil) if I were to just throw them [worms] in these spots they'd die because the soil is just too dry and sandy with very little organic matter.

It really is all about the soil.
